As many of you know from following my Twitter feed I got a Canon 24-105 lens mug this last Christmas and have loved using this mug. Although I don’t have this specific lens (and prefer the Canon 24-70 L lens) it still is cool to have a mug that looks very similar to a real lens and is always a good conversation starter. Needless to say I was excited to get an email from a company who now has a zoomable 24-70 L f/2.8 Canon lens mug. Here is a quick review of the Canon 24-70 lens mug from lensmug.net and a giveaway below to win one of your own.

When I received the mug I was first pretty surprised to see that the box it came in was a box made to look just like a Canon box. The detail in the box is good, and at first glance it does look like a genuine Canon lens box. That was pretty cool and I think i’ll keep the box around, however the one error on the box packaging is that is says its a 24-70 f/4 lens mug while the mug is actually the 24-70 f/2.8 mug. Oops a little error on the box but no big deal in my mind. It also comes with a lens bag, if you wanted to carry around your lens in a little bag.

Whats real and what not?

The lens itself is pretty awesome. Here are a few specs of the mug:

  • Zoom rings and rubber-grip focus which actually zooms!
  • Plastic body with stainless steel interior
  • Lens-cap lid
  • Functional AF/MF switch
  • The quality of the plastic is very well made and it has a solid and sturdy feel to it. The zoom is pretty cool since no other lens mug I have seen actually zooms. I don’t think I am going to be zooming my mug while drinking my coffee but its still a fun little benefit and could be a great way to trick your friends into thinking its a real lens as you pour coffee into it. The top is a screw top so this works well as a travel mug also, although they are pretty beefy so might not fit into a cupholder depending on your car. The attention to detail is also really good, the other lens I have is a good replica but this one has a little more detail that makes it even more realistic. For example the red ring around the top of the lens that shows its a Canon L lens is an actual separate piece of plastic not just painted on like other lenses I have seen. Its a small difference but really helps it to have an authentic look.

Overall its a really fun mug for any Canon lover (they also do have Nikon mugs and thermoses available). It works great and looks good so a very short review today.
