As creatives that deal with huge files and need to transfer them over the web to clients a lot having a open internet is super important. Net neutrality has been a hot topic lately and it’s something I feel is very important. In my mind having an even playing field on the net will help new and creative companies that are trying to push the envelope and move things forward a chance to succeed. Think if Comcast and other ISP’s throttled Netflix when they first started. Of if they throttled new startups like Instagram or any other Web based app you love when they first got started. They probably wouldn’t have had a chance to grow to the size they are. ISP’s already have way too much control and if they are allowed to throttle certain services that might compete with what they want to offer (like video on demand) then the web as we know it will not exist.
So today we will have a banner pop up that you might have already seen (image below). Please take a second to join the petition for net neutrality by entering your info on that popup or go to: https://www.battleforthenet.com
We’re in the battle for the net!
Cable companies want to slow down (and break!) your favorite sites, for profit. To fight back, let’s cover the web with symbolic “loading” icons, to remind everyone what an Internet without net neutrality would look like, and drive record numbers of emails and calls to lawmakers. Are you in?
