One great part about the Pixelmator app is they have some built in presets that make certain photo editing a breeze. Today I want to review the using the Vintage effect in Pixelmator. The Vintage effect is located in the Effects Browser in Pixelmator (click Command-3 to open this menu if it isn’t already open).
From here you will see 8 different effects to choose from. These are similar to the effects you have with an app like Instagram so if you love using Instagram on your mobile phone you might like these as well.
With each effect you can adjust the saturation so in this example I wanted a toy camera feel to the image and bumped up the saturation quite a bit. You can also add a Vignette to the image but don’t have any fine tune control over the Vignette settings.
Overall it’s a very simple feature in Pixelmator and if you love simple one click filters this might be a useful feature for you. Also if you do love Instagram and want a Instagram like look for your image in Lightroom check out our Instagram Lightroom presets for Lightroom which are on Sale right now.
Pixelmator is a great app and does many things that Photoshop does but for only $29.99 in the Mac store. It’s an amazing value even if it doesn’t fully replace Photoshop and I highly recommend checking it out.
