Today Brian O’Neil from Adobe announced on the Adobe blog that they will be removing Photoshop Touch for iPhone and iPad from the App Store on May 28. They aren’t abandoning mobile though and will keep many of their apps in production including Photoshop Mix, Photoshop Sketch, and all the CC apps like Adobe Shape CC, Adobe Brush CC and Adobe Color CC.
He also said that they are going to be focusing on retouching on mobile in a more serious way and even included a video:
But this is only a fraction of what we’re doing when it comes to mobile. We certainly aren’t sitting still, and there are many more workflows that we still want to bring to mobile. As just one example, I’m proud to announce that we’re actively pursuing a serious retouching solution for mobile, it’s called Project Rigel and is expected to be available in late 2015.
I have to admit I am not sad to see the app go. I haven’t used it in a long time, Photoshop Touch was very simple and didn’t really have anything that set it apart from other basic photo apps out there so it’s good to trim out some of the fat and be able to focus better on some more advanced stuff. Although since it was a paid app in addition to the cost of the desktop Photoshop I would have preferred they iterated on this app instead of creating a new more advanced editing app.
