Sometimes I think the best way to grow as artists is to constantly get feedback on our work. I used to always look forward to critiques in school. Even though it would be a little tough sometimes to hear someone rip apart your work that you had spend weeks working hard on there were always some good nuggets of truth. In the end no matter how brutal the critique was I always felt that I grew more and more as an artist after each critique. Sometimes as a professional its hard to get your work critiqued. You can enter local print competitions which are always great places to get some feedback or national competitions like WPPI. However sometimes with a print competition like WPPI if you want to hear the feedback and get more than just the score you have to be there for the judging and most of us might not be able to travel to Vegas to hear some comments on our work.
So I wanted to do a critique here on digital photo buzz. If you are eager to learn more about photography and really want to improve your art (and can take a little constructive feedback) then leave a comment below with links to 2-4 of your recent images. I will go over them in the next week and create a post here with my feedback. Also in the comment include a quick snippet about what these photos are about and any background of them. So grab a few images, leave a comment and lets all learn together!

Hi
I do appreciate any feedback – this is a traffic signal in Rome. Tried to keep the background out of focus to emphasize the light itself.

Thanks for doing this Mark! Here are a few of mine:
http://www.blazingb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/The-Fighter.jpg – “The Fighter” I was hoping to capture a contrast between a soft face and background and the sharpness of the fur hoodie.

Here are some of what I consider my best pictures so far, taken on a couple of rainy early mornings in Venice:

Thank you for the offer! I love learning, and that happens through constructive criticism. Ooh, back in the day, my ISP used to offer newsgroups, and there were great learning opportunities on some of the photo NGs. I miss that.
Here are some of my images:
My CSA from Kawartha Ecological Gardeners:
I’m enthralled by classical Dutch still life paintings, and tried to capture that feeling.
I have two variations… slight modifications in the composition, change in lighting from very warm to accurate. Would like your opinion:

Foggy harbour in Halifax, NS. I was lucky to have fog my first day there this summer. The weather was clear the rest of the time, and Dartmouth was right there in the background. Only with the fog did it disappear.

Hi. Sounds like fun. Here are three very different photos from this past year.
An old piano stored in a retired factory that has been turned into an artists studio and gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leversandpulleys/5144762766/in/photostream/
This is a friends daughter and was taken indoors using some home studio lights and a 5Dii: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leversandpulleys/5215897175/
This was shot and processed on my phone while I was browsing for a Christmas wreath in a nearby greenhouse: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leversandpulleys/5274764018/
So, an on-location walkabout, home studio, and phone snap. Thanks!
Oh, and if film captures processed digitally are acceptable, here’s this taken during a model’s cigarette break: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leversandpulleys/5124926440/in/set-72157619182140367/
I think of film captures that are processed digitally as digital photography, but most don’t. 🙂
Flower shot – look forward to your comments.
Critique away!

Thanks for offering to do this. It was hard to pick which ones to offer up:
1. a black and white streetscape
http://toomuchglass.net/index.php/2010/11/14/ordinary-world/
2. a somewhat different skyline
http://toomuchglass.net/index.php/2010/12/13/brooklyn-bridge-park-pier-construction/
3. a night time street photography image
http://toomuchglass.net/index.php/2011/01/02/my-unexpected-new-years-present/
Wow! Thanks for this amazing and generous offer. I love critiques. They are the main thing I miss from school.
Here is a link to four photos I picked: http://goo.gl/XTSv5
Photo #1 is from just a couple of days ago. I’m still learning about off camera lighting, so I was trying to balance the ambient light and the flash.
Photo #2 is from last week, during the Atlanta snowmageddon. I wanted to overexpose enough to draw your attention to how blue her eyes are, but not ruin the highlights.
Photo #3 is about a month old. Here again, I’m working with off camera lighting. I put a gel on one light to match the color of the sunlight, but left the other flash w/o a gel.
Photo #4 is from an August wedding I photographed. I loved the shape of the pod chairs on the patio and wanted to use them in the shoot.
Thanks again for the offer! I am really excited to hear your thoughts.
Amanda
Have at it!…

This is a project I just finished called Last Thing. The project presents the images, then presents the information on them so viewers can see how much the information influences their opinion of the shots. Based on the last thing actual homicide victims saw moments before their death. Mature audiences only.
Find the beauty in all that’s around you, For you never know… What will be,… the last thing you see…
Hi,
I really appreciate the initiative! I’d really love some feedback on these photos:

This is a shot I took while taking a walk on the beach trying to get some peace so I could really think about a few things that were occupying my mind a lot at the time. I came across this guy standing far out in the shallow waters fishing. It just seemed like he didn’t have a care in the world.

This shot is from a city called Ă…lesund in Norway. I was there to be the best man in my best friend’s wedding. There’s so much great scenery in that area, as there are fjords, mountains and islands all over the place.

These are two of my favorite shots from the very first wedding I got paid to shoot, which was last year. It was actually my very first paid job as a photographer ever. I was nervous as hell. It was an Indian wedding in a catholic church. The couple were friends of some friends of mine. It was a very long day, 18-hours on the job with hardly any breaks. Didn’t make me rich, but I sure learned a LOT from this day.
