Toning our images is a huge part of the artistic process to get just the right look and mood for the image we captured. In this video you can see how to give an ordinary image some extra pop by using an overlay image plus an adjustment layers. It’s a great trick and a quick way to fine tune the colors on our images. At 2:42 I decided I’d already wasted enough of my life being spoken at as if I’m a slow learner. You could cover this information in thirty seconds with a list of instructions and screenshots:
1) CTL/CMD-J to duplicate original or original group (may need ALT-CTL-SFT-E to stamp visible, depending on your workflow)
2) set new image layer mode to overlay
3) add b&w adjustment layer on top of new image layer, ALT-G to clip it to the new layer
4) adjust tones to somewhere between garish and searing
