Another long time tradition for many at the start of the New Year is to setup goals. I’ve always been a firm believer of setting goals for both personal and business and love to spend time in the first few days of the year looking back to the goals I had set for the last year and evaluating what I did well at and where I fell short. After reflecting back it’s time to look forward and see what I really want to accomplish in the upcoming year.
For my photography goals in 2015 there are a few things I have on my list that I wanted to share.
1) Write more! The survey we posted last week “What types of photography articles do you want to see” showed that many of you want to see more Lightroom and Photo Lighting articles. My goal will be to create at least one new article per week in these categories (plus more interesting articles to cover Photoshop, Pixelmator and other things you all requested). If you want to get on our weekly newsletter so you don’t miss a post you can sign up below.
2) Photography my own kids more. I hate to admit that when our kids were first born I did a quick shoot of them every week. As they got older and older that slipped to maybe a monthly shoot or then just whenever I found the time. Looking back at some of these quickly weekly shoots it’s amazing to see their personalities come to life and something that I need to get back into shooting.
3) Read a book a month. Not always photo related but reading is something that’s always great for our minds and creativity. Right now i’m reading The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses
4) Journal. Writing here has always been a good form of artistic expression for me but i’ve never really had a internal tool to write down all of my thoughts, ideas, and all the other stuff that fills my brain. This year i’m dedicating time every night to journal for just a few quick minutes. Instead of winding down the day playing Clash of Clans on my iPad i’m going to spend a little time writing down my personal thoughts.
That’s about it, 4 main things that I am focusing on in 2015. We are all a work in progress and this year i’m focusing a lot on learning and growing my passions.
