The other day we covered how to use a Develop Preset when importing your images in Lightroom which is a great way to apply the same settings to all of the images that you import. But what if you shoot some images at ISO 1600 and some at ISO 200? You don’t want to apply the same noise reduction settings to these images and thankfully Lightroom has a really great way to make your default develop settings for a specific camera you shoot with or ISO.
To do this first click on Lightroom –> Preferences and check the box to make defaults specific to camera serial number and to ISO setting.
Then for this example i’ll head over to an image with an ISO at 1600 and set the Luminance to 40 to help bring the noise down.
Once you have your develop settings all dialed in for your images at this ISO then click on the Develop –> Set Default Settings menu option. This will open up a pop up dialog to confirm the camera and ISO you are using. Once you confirm this you are ready to roll. Now all images that I import at ISO 1600 will have the luminance set to 40. You can repeat this for different ISO’s or even different camera bodies and have your defaults all dialed in specific to camera and/or ISO. This is a really useful feature, when I shoot weddings I normally start the day out at ISO 200 but move up into the 800 or 1600 range during the evening so having a default setting applied that takes the ISO into consideration saves a huge amount of time by not having to adjust noise levels for the entire shoot.
